Academy was born in 2018 from a friendship forged on the mats. Hector Beltran and Eduardo Lomeli had trained together for years — grinding through technique, competing, and building a deep understanding of what great martial arts instruction actually looks like.
They opened Academy with a clear purpose: a school that was as serious about community as it was about technique. 8 years later, that vision is alive in every class, every promotion, and every family that calls Academy home.

Training at Academy means training within one of the most respected lineages in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Checkmat was founded by Leonardo “Leo” Vieira — a legendary competitor and one of the most influential figures in the history of BJJ.
Being Checkmat affiliated is not a logo on a wall — it means our professors were shaped by the same system, held to the same standards, and connected to the same global community of elite practitioners.
