closer to the mats.

Check your email for your booking confirmation. In the meantime, here’s everything you need to know before your first class.

Before you arrive

What to expect
on day one.

1
Arrive 10 minutes early
Come a few minutes before class starts so we can show you around, introduce you to your instructor, and get you comfortable before the session begins. No one gets thrown on the mat without a proper welcome.
2
Check in at the front desk
Let the front desk know you’re here for your trial class. We’ll have your information on file and make sure your instructor is expecting you.
3
Follow your instructor’s lead
Your instructor will guide you through everything — warm-up, technique, and drilling. You don’t need to know anything. Just follow along, ask questions, and enjoy it.
4
Your $15 is not wasted
If you decide to join — and we think you will — your $15 trial fee is fully credited toward your first gi or gear purchase. Zero risk to try us out.
What to wear

Come dressed
to move.

No gi or uniform required for your trial class. Just show up in comfortable athletic clothing — we’ll take care of the rest.

  • A fitted t-shirt or rash guard
  • Clean athletic shoes (for kickboxing)
  • Hair tied back if long
  • Water bottle — they will need it

Adults
Ages 14+
  • Athletic shorts, joggers, or spats
  • A fitted t-shirt or rash guard
  • No buttons, zippers, or belt loops
  • Clean athletic shoes (for kickboxing)
  • Water bottle
No shoes on the BJJ mat. Remove footwear before stepping on the grappling mat. Flip flops to walk to the mat, bare feet on it.
Trim your nails. Short fingernails and toenails are required on the BJJ mat — it’s a safety courtesy for your training partners.
How to prepare

A few things that
will help you thrive.

Get a good night’s sleep
Martial arts demands focus and body awareness. You’ll enjoy your first class much more if you’re well-rested and present.
Eat light beforehand
Have a light meal 1.5–2 hours before class. Avoid training on a full stomach — especially for BJJ, where you’ll be moving on the ground.
Hydrate well
Drink plenty of water before and after class. Our classes are high-energy and you will sweat. Bring a full water bottle — no sharing on the mat.
💬
Leave the ego at the door
Everyone here was a beginner once. Ask questions, tap early, and focus on learning — not winning. That mindset will take you further than any technique.
📋
Tell us about injuries
Let your instructor know about any existing injuries before class. We can modify techniques so you train safely and still get a full experience.
😄
Expect to have fun
Your first class is about getting a feel for the gym, the people, and the art. Don’t pressure yourself to be good — just show up and enjoy it.
For parents

Bringing your
child? Here’s what to know.

You are welcome to watch your child’s first class. We have seating along the side of the mat. Many parents stay for every class — others drop off once their child is comfortable. Both are completely fine.

If your child is nervous, that’s completely normal. Our instructors are experienced with first-timers and are great at making kids feel at ease quickly. Most kids forget they were nervous within the first five minutes.

Feel free to speak with the instructor before or after class with any questions. We want you to feel confident about the environment your child is in.

Arrive 10 minutes early to fill out a brief liability waiver
Label your child’s water bottle — kids lose them often
Encourage your child before class, not during — let the instructor lead
Ask your child what they learned after — they’ll be excited to share
Siblings are welcome to watch from the seating area
Speak with us about sibling discounts if enrolling more than one child
Common questions

Things people
ask before day one.

Do I need to bring anything?
Just yourself, athletic clothing, and a water bottle. We have everything else you need on site. Don’t buy any gear before your first class — we’ll help you pick the right equipment after you decide to join.
Is it okay if my child has never done martial arts before?
Absolutely. The majority of our kids started with zero experience. Our curriculum is designed specifically to take a child from their very first day through advanced technique — every class builds on the last.
I’m an adult and I’ve never trained before. Will I be lost?
Not at all. Every adult class is taught in a way that makes sense for beginners while still challenging experienced students. Your instructor will pair you appropriately and make sure you’re never in over your head.
Where do I park?
There is a free parking lot directly in front of the gym at 20655 Yorba Linda Blvd, Yorba Linda CA 92886. Plenty of space — never a parking issue.
What happens after the trial class?
Your instructor will take a few minutes after class to talk through membership options and answer any questions. There is zero pressure. If you want to think about it, that is completely fine — we’re here when you’re ready.
Can I watch my child’s class?
Yes — we have seating along the mat and parents are always welcome to observe. Over time many families settle into a drop-off routine, but watching is always an option.
