Angel Diaz, a dedicated martial artist, achieved his black belt in 2022 under the guidance of Leo Vieira, the esteemed founder of Checkmat.

Beginning his training journey at the age of 16 at his local teen center, before finding his local gym where he trained and eventually worked his way up until becoming an instructor and joining their MMA team. Angel has accumulated valuable experience, having competed in 7 amateur MMA fights from age 18 to 21. Throughout his training, he has had the privilege of learning from and training alongside numerous UFC fighters, enriching his understanding of the sport.

Angel is now also a head MMA coach for both amateur and professional fighters in MMA and amateur Muay Thai, and kickboxing. Angel emphasizes the values of community, consistency, and discipline. He takes immense pride in his teaching, dedicating extensive hours to study and continuous learning to ensure the success of his students. Alongside his coaching responsibilities, Angel remains an active Brazilian jiu-jitsu competitor, continually seeking to improve his skills and technique.

Outside of the mats, Angel is an aspiring physical therapist assistant, driven by his passion for helping others.
